2048
2048 is a sliding-tile number puzzle where you combine powers of two until you hit the magic number. Every swipe shifts all the tiles on the board in one direction, and matching numbers merge into their sum. A new tile appears after every move — the board fills up fast, and escape routes disappear before you realise it. It's the kind of game that feels solved until suddenly it isn't.
How to Play
Slide all tiles in one direction: left, right, up, or down. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile worth their combined value. After each move a new 2 or 4 tile spawns on an empty square. Reach 2048 to win — but the game keeps going if you want a higher score.
- Keyboard: use the arrow keys to slide tiles.
- Touch & mobile: swipe in the direction you want to slide.
- New Game button: starts a fresh board at any time.
- Game over: tap or press an arrow key when the board is full and no merges remain.
Tips & Strategy
- Pick a corner and stay there. Keep your highest tile in one corner and build a descending chain from it — this locks down your biggest numbers and stops them from getting marooned.
- Only slide in two or three directions. Randomly swiping in all four directions scatters tiles and breaks your chain. Favour the two directions that push toward your high tile.
- Never move your corner tile if you can help it. The moment your highest tile drifts to the middle, the board becomes very hard to untangle.
- Plan merges in sequence. Aim to merge 2→4, 4→8, 8→16 in a single sweep rather than creating isolated high tiles that block everything else.
