Backrooms
Backrooms is a first-person liminal-horror game set in the endlessly repeating office floors of internet legend. Wander through fluorescent-lit corridors, dead-end conference rooms, and back hallways that never quite look the same twice. Small things skitter in the vents — shoot them. One thing that wanders the deeper floors cannot be stopped. Run from that one.
How to Play
Explore the procedurally generated floors, surviving as long as you can. You have a weapon for the smaller entities — aim and fire to keep them at bay. The large entity cannot be harmed and will pursue you relentlessly once it becomes aware of you.
- Keyboard: WASD to move, Mouse to look, Click to fire.
- Touch: drag the virtual joystick to move and turn.
- Click or tap to lock your pointer for full mouse-look (click again to release).
- Listen carefully — you'll hear things before you see them.
Tips & Strategy
- Keep moving. Staying still in one room is how you get cornered. Always have an exit route in mind.
- Back away from the small things. You have enough shots to handle them, but maintain distance so you don't get swarmed.
- If the big one appears — run. Don't try to fight it. Put as many walls and corridors between you and it as possible.
- The fluorescent hum is worse in some rooms. Trust the atmosphere — the game tells you when something is wrong even before you see it.
About This Game
Backrooms uses a Three.js WebGL renderer to build a fully three-dimensional liminal environment that runs in the browser. No downloads, no installs, no data sent anywhere. It's part of the free arcade collection at Misunderstood Games.
