Hearts
Hearts is the classic trick-taking card game for four players where the goal is to avoid taking points — and sometimes to take all of them. You play against three computer opponents, passing three cards before each hand, and trying to keep your score as low as possible. Unless you shoot the moon, in which case everyone else gets 26 points instead.
How to Play
Each hand begins with passing three cards to another player. Then tricks are played in turn order — highest card of the led suit wins each trick. Hearts are worth 1 point each; the Queen of Spades is worth 13. At the end of each hand, points are added to running totals. The player with the lowest score when someone reaches 100 points wins.
- Click or tap a card to play it on your turn.
- Passing: select three cards to pass to the indicated opponent, then confirm.
- Hearts can't be led until a heart has been played on a previous trick (heart-breaking).
- Shooting the moon: if one player takes all 13 hearts and the Queen of Spades in a single hand, all other players get 26 points instead.
Tips & Strategy
- Pass the Queen of Spades early. The Queen is 13 points on her own — get rid of her whenever you can, especially if you're short on spades.
- Keep low spades. If you can't get rid of the Queen, covering her with lower spades keeps you safe from taking her yourself.
- Duck out of tricks you don't need to win. Play your lowest card on tricks you can afford to lose, especially when hearts are being played.
- Watch for shooting the moon. If one opponent is taking all the hearts, it might be worth sacrificing a trick to break their run.
